Hi guys, it’s wonderful to be with you today! I hope you’re thriving and well. In today’s video, I’m exploring what “mental health” awareness month means to me, and sharing 5 tips on how to improve yours! It helps us begin to open UP to the self in a way that is rich, rewarding and authentic- LISTENING TO THE VOICE DEEP WITHIN US. I wonder at times if we create the resistance, and lack of (fill in the blank) in life due to our inability to accept what we truly feel and want.
So I ask you right now……is there something that you haven’t admitted to yourself? Or that you’re looking for external validation from an outside source, even though you already know in your mind’s eye that it feels right for you–?? This could be a decision, a lifestyle, a career, a home, relationship. I’m by no means mitigating the chemical balances that some experience, and external circumstances and burden or hardships that we as humans undergo. But I think one is being in tune with our own knowing, and that’s why carving a little time and space each day to reflect helps increase our own intuition, and we start to understand ourselves a deep, core level. The more we follow our authentic heart, the better aligned we’ll be to a future that is filled with happiness. Life is short. And when we fail to admit how we feel, or that a big change is needed, our central nervous system responds and manifests the stress in big ways- often diseases and ailments arise, because we are out of balance.
I’ll share a few tips that I find help me daily in my own mental health-iness…..
1. Take inventory of everything that your mind is consuming. (Do you watch TV? Are you spending hours on a show that promotes violence, drugs, ill will or negativity? This is an example of something that seeps into our own mindset- and we start to become numb to it) How much time do you spend on Social media and how do you feel afterwards? Do you follow people who are self-absorbed or focused on material things that aren’t aligned? Every single thing we consume contributes to our own MIND HEALTH. I don’t watch the news anymore. It’s not necessary, and usually focused on death, tragedy, and horrible political stances. I still remain up to speed by catching headlines, but as an empath, I realize that certain things stick to me and I’d rather not take those things to sleep each night!
2. Be smart about who you spend time with. The people in your life = HUGE. We become a combination of all those we spend time in our lives, so if you are hoping to create more balance, peace and happiness think twice about a person who’s always available to do things with but also negative, and more a glass half empty vibe! Your tribe is out there- find a hobby or sport you enjoy, and put yourself in new healthy circles where like-minded souls will be! Perhaps taking a yoga class at a new studio, or taking your dog to another dog park…even joining a meet up local to your area if you’re into trying new restaurants !
3. Offer yourself the gift of time each day to do something that makes you happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PERIOD. Whether it’s gardening, going for a swim, meditating, cooking, whatever lights you up. It’s a fact that we will be happier people if we simply do what we love a little bit more. And it can even be small things like listening to a podcast that lifts your spirits on a topic that you’d like to learn more about.
4. GO OUTSIDE FOR 20 minutes a day!!! Sunlight is healing, warmth soothing, and scientfically studies have shown that being in nature is relaxing, reduces our stress, cortisol levels, muscle tension and heart rates – all of which are risk factors for cardiovascular disease and other issues!
5. Do digital detoxes 1 day a week, or whenever you feel overwhelmed. We can’t be plugged in and expected to respond and talk always. But rather, giving your family a heads up and just taking a break is a BLESSING. You’ll come back rejuvenated and more ready than ever to connect. I try to employ this tactic often because it’s always a treat to give yourself space and time.
